Rachel Thornton Announced as Inaugural Executive Director for Clinical Services

We are excited to announce that Dr. Rachel Thornton has accepted an executive leadership position in the newly created Johns Hopkins Medicine Office of Population Health (OPH) where she will serve as the inaugural executive director for clinical services.

In her new role, Rachel is responsible for clinical delivery teams, and she ensures services are evidence-based and effective. She oversees the design and execution of OPH models of care and clinical resources for patient and provider populations and the community. With extensive expertise in social determinants of health and in leading multidisciplinary teams, she serves as Associate Professor of Pediatrics at The Johns Hopkins University and Associate Director for the Urban Health Institute.

 A thought leader and innovator in health equity research, Dr. Thornton serves as Associate Director for Policy at the Hopkins Center for Health Equity advising Center leadership on strategies to leverage health equity research to inform policy. Among her past appointments, Rachel served as Associate Medical Director for Pediatric Managed Care in the Office of Johns Hopkins Physicians. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in health policy and management from the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, a Doctor of Medicine degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from New York University.

Rachel is the first in this role and will pave a new path alongside Mr. Teodoro “Teo” Norman, executive director of administration and Dr. Scott Berkowitz, Chief Population Health Officer and Vice President of Population Health.
