CENTER RESEARCH PROJECT UPDATES

The Johns Hopkins Center for Health Equity brings scientists from different disciplines together to create innovative theories, methods, and practical interventions to promote equity in health and healthcare for socially at-risk populations.

The Center includes NIH and PCORI-funded intervention studies to improve the identification, treatment, and outcomes of patients with chronic conditions such as hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease, and depression.

OUR APPROACH TO RESEARCH

We engage in community-based research and implement this knowledge in our daily work with communities including a crosscutting local global learning theme which draws from and reflects on lessons learned during applications made in multiple settings across the global.

We draw upon community-based participatory research principles such as trustworthiness, respect for diverse perspectives, and participatory decision-making, to build strong ties among researchers, healthcare provider networks, community members, and policy-makers.

Below is a summary of each research project, latest news about its progress, and access to further details.

Mid-Atlantic Center for Cardiometabolic Health Equity (MACCHE)

GET ORIENTED WITH MACCHE

The Mid-Atlantic Center for Cardiometabolic Health Equity (MACCHE) grant is one of eleven P50 Center Grants that were awarded by the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) in 2021. The NIMHD has awarded these funds to support regional comprehensive research centers on the prevention, treatment, and management of chronic diseases associated with health disparities.

Building on the research of the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Equity, the Mid-Atlantic Center for Cardiometabolic Health Equity (MACCHE) aims to advance health equity in Maryland by tackling disparities in cardiometabolic diseases in partnership with the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) and collaboration with Morgan State University and other local institutions.
