Dr. Lisa Cooper Named Director of Johns Hopkins Urban Health Institute

We are excited to announce that our Center for Health Equity Director, Dr. Lisa A. Cooper, was just named the new Director of the Johns Hopkins Urban Health Institute this past week! Going forward, Dr. Cooper will hold a dual appointment as Director for both the Center for Health Equity and the Urban Health Institute.

“The Center for Health Equity and the Urban Health Institute have overlapping missions: to make sure that vulnerable populations are afforded every opportunity for equitable health care and health outcomes.  I see deep synergies possible between the work of the Center for Health Equity and the Urban Health Institute” said Dr. Cooper about her new appointment.

The Johns Hopkins University release on the appointment notes that “Cooper, who has devoted her career to addressing health disparities through her research and practice, shapes a new vision for the Institute with a focus on health equity for Baltimore's most vulnerable groups.”

Along with her new appointment, Dr. Cooper will put new emphasis on facilitating and recognizing collaborations between communities, universities, health care delivery systems, government, and the private sector to build greater capacity for achieving health equity in Baltimore.
